Refrigerator Repair in Fairfax County

Fairfax County’s trusted, family-owned appliance specialists. Same-day visits when you need them.

A refrigerator doesn’t just stop working — it fails in stages. Temperature drifts first, the ice maker slows down, a faint hum turns into a clatter. By the time food is spoiling, the underlying problem has often been building for weeks. Our job is to catch it early, diagnose it precisely, and fix it before your family loses a freezer full of groceries.

Advanced Home Appliance Repair services every refrigerator architecture sold in the U.S. market — top-freezer, bottom-freezer, French door, side-by-side, counter-depth, built-in column, and under-counter. We carry inverter compressors, linear compressor modules, defrost boards, evaporator fans, water inlet valves, ice maker assemblies, and door gasket kits on the van, which means most refrigerator calls in Fairfax County are completed in a single visit.

The Five Refrigerator Symptoms We See Most

1. Fridge section running warm, freezer still cold

This is almost always a defrost issue or a failed evaporator fan — not a compressor problem. The freezer makes the cold air; a fan pushes that air into the fridge compartment. When the fan fails or ice builds up around the evaporator coil, cold air can’t reach the refrigerator side. We test fan current draw, inspect the coil, and replace defrost heaters or thermistors as needed. Typical repair: $180-$320.

2. Ice maker producing small or hollow cubes

Low water pressure at the fill valve is the usual culprit, often caused by a partially frozen water line, a clogged inline filter, or a failing water inlet solenoid. On Samsung and LG units, ice maker firmware can also hang — we carry OEM service tools to force a factory reset before assuming a hardware fault. On Sub-Zero and Viking built-ins, we replace the entire ice maker assembly rather than chase component failures inside the module.

3. Water pooling on the kitchen floor

Leaks have three usual sources: a cracked water reservoir, a split rear water line (often at a brass fitting that corroded), or a blocked defrost drain tube causing water to back up into the fridge cavity. On French door LG and Samsung models, the drain tube clog is extremely common — the factory thin-walled tube develops ice plugs that we clear, warm, and reroute to prevent recurrence.

4. Loud compressor or cycling noise

Modern inverter and linear compressors (used by Samsung, LG, GE, and most built-ins) should run nearly silently. Clicking, buzzing, or rhythmic cycling usually points to a failed start relay, a worn compressor motor, or — on LG linear models specifically — the infamous compressor failure that sometimes still falls under extended warranty coverage even past the standard term. We verify warranty status before proposing a paid repair.

5. Full cooling loss, compressor not running

The dreaded call. Before condemning the compressor (a $600-$1,400 repair), we verify start capacitor, overload protector, main control board outputs, and — critically — whether the sealed system has lost refrigerant charge. A cracked coil leak means the fridge is beyond economical repair, and we’ll say so. Honest assessment beats selling you a repair that won’t hold.

Built-In and Column Refrigerators: A Different Conversation

If you have a Sub-Zero, True, Thermador Freedom column, Monogram, or Viking built-in, the math on repair-versus-replace changes dramatically. A 20-year-old Sub-Zero 632 is almost always worth repairing — replacement is $12,000+, and the mechanical design is genuinely serviceable for decades. We’re certified on Sub-Zero sealed-system work, which is the critical credential: only factory-trained techs should recover refrigerant, replace driers, and recharge these systems. Your Sub-Zero doesn’t belong in the hands of a general appliance tech.
